Research Interests:
Professor Tuuri has teaching and research interests regarding the role of nutrition and exercise in the prevention of chronic disease. She is particularly interested in developing and testing intervention strategies designed to prevent overweight in children, low bone mass in youth, and osteoporosis in older individuals.

Professional and Notable Activities:
Dr. Tuuri is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Dietetic Association, and the International Society for Clinical Densitometry


Honors and Awards:
Dr. Tuuri was the recepient of a Learning Community incentive grant where she and a faculty member from the Department of Kinesiology developed and taught a course entitled "Scientific Basis of Nutrition and Exercise in Health and Disease." This learning community combined HUEC 3010 - Nutrition and Wellness with KIN 3534 - Scientific Principles of Exercise and students registered for both courses. The Learning Community was taught spring semester 2004.


Grants and Contracts:
Smart Bodies Research Project, funded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, Research PI - Georgianna Tuuri, Co-PI researchers Melinda Solmon, Ellen Murphy, Heli Roy, Annrose Guarino. Funded 01/01/05-12/31/06. This health intervention program emphasizes healthy eating and exercise habits and intends to reduce the number of overweight elementary school children.
