Students successfully completing the degree program will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate mastery of all knowledge and skill requirements (as promulgated by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education [CADE])
  2. Exhibit civic and professional responsibility by successfully completing service-learning projects in the curriculum
  3. Communicate effectively to lay and technical audiences
  4. Apply critical thinking skills to dietetics/nutrition based problems
  5. Identify, evaluate, and use appropriate reference materials
  6. Select and use appropriate technology
  7. Enter a pre-professional practice program (dietetic internship) if they so choose use the knowledge and skills obtained to continue their education or select a career of their choice

Evaluation Procedures:

  • Fulfillment of the knowledge and skill requirements for the curriculum as promulgated by CADE (Didactic Program in Dietetics [DPD] Director responsibility)
  • Accreditation of the DPD by CADE
  • Program/curriculum review by DPD Advisory Board (practicing dietitians, school faculty and administrators, and students)
  • Pass rate on the Registration Exam (to be come a registered dietitian)
  • Exit interviews with graduating seniors (DPD Director responsibility)
  • Alumni surveys (DPD Director responsibility)
  • Employer surveys (DPD Director responsibility)
  • Student mastery of course-specific knowledge and skills, and application of these knowledge and skills as prescribed by CADE (responsibility of individual instructors)

How the evaluations are being used to improve the program:

  • To make changes in the curriculum-add/change/delete courses or to add new programs, to parallel changes in the profession.
  • To identify knowledge and skills requirements that are addressed adequately within the curriculum, as well as those that are not adequately addressed. For those not being adequately addressed, to change course or curriculum structure.

  • Percentage of students who pass the registration exam to become a registered dietitian on the first try
  • 100% of those who take the registration exam pass on the first sitting
  • Student focus groups, providing interpretations or perceptions of student learning
  • 85% of senior student respondents will indicate adequate knowledge attained at the undergraduate level
  • Alumni and employer surveys who provide self-reports or observational reports
  • 85% of alumni will indicate adequate mastery of the subject matter
    100% of alumni will receive a positive evaluation
  • Percentage of students attending graduate, medical, dental, pharmacy, or allied health sciences schools
  • 75% of those applying for these programs are accepted (HED)
    90% of those applying for these programs are accepted (NS)
  • Job placement statistics
  • 100% of graduates desiring to work in a given field feel prepared to enter the job of their choice
