Nutrition and Health Assessment Laboratory
The Louisiana State University Agricultural Center commitment to strengthening research, teaching, and outreach education to improve nutrition and health created a Nutrition and Health Assessment Laboratory (NHAL) with the School of Human Ecology as the lead unit. The recently completed 2808 sq ft renovations in Knapp Hall on the LSU campus provides office and lab space. The lab will be used for applied research studies, including nutrition assessment and analysis, and for demonstrations to prepare Extension agents and paraprofessionals, undergraduate students, and graduate students in nutritional assessment and outreach in community nutrition and wellness education. The LSU System supported the establishment of NHAL by awarding the AgCenter funds to purchase a DEXA (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometer), a PIXI (peripheral instantaneous x-ray imager for bone densitometry), multi-frequency bioelectric impedance analyzer (BIA), eight desktop computers, two laptop computers, a color laser printer, a metabolic cart, ten activity monitors, two electrical beds, an ice maker, an explosion proof refrigerator/freezer, and an ultra low freezer. Other equipment on hand includes a centrifuge, an incubator, and a Hewlett Packard capillary electrophoresis system, a stomacher for digestion of foods, and some basic laboratory supplies and equipment.

HUEC Computer Lab
The HUEC Computer Lab is equipped with twenty state of the art computer workstations. The lab is also equipped with multimedia capabilites to assist with the instruction of various software. The software installed on the computers ranges from nutritional and diet analysis software such as Computrition, Nutritionist Pro, and Food Processor, to statististical software including SAS and SPSS. The lab is open to all Human Ecology undergraduate and graduate students.
